In this edition we focus on our recent East Cape/Motu Adventure Ride hosted Labour Weekend 2012

Highlights from DAY 1 now available: - DAY 2 Highlights available shortly:

As we progressed through the East Cape areas taking in The Motu, along with Private Stations, tracks and trails,  many terrain variations were presented to us.   Water was "ON" and our visit to this region certainly presented plenty in this category also. 

The immense amount of exhileration and excitement this bought to our attendees 'very evident' at the catered evening dining that we had organised at the end of each day for our hungry Adventure Riders.  This weekend has been enjoyed so very much that we will be taking it back here again Next Year along with "MANY" more private stations and forestry areas that have now also become available to us.  We look to base our ride in the "ONE" area of this Region next year and we now have Another "TWO" days of riding in this "ONE" area alone.  Both Jim and Danny were unable to bring several Private areas of riding to our people due to the adverse weather just recently.  We will look to host this re-visit over the coming summer months also, which should assist us to be able to explore the selection of Private Stations and Forest Blocks we have to hand.    This will require another long weekend stint for those wishing to attend.  All bookings will be made available shortly on our website.  

Due to popular demand, we now have a "FULL" vehicle support crew and team, and this position has already been pre-filled, demand has been running hot.   

The running of our "TWO"  Ride Groups was highly successful, and we wish to thank our local lads for their wealth of knowledge that was delivered to us also.  Being able to offer a service to our scenic adventure riders amongst us - just perfect.  Seen here, Ride Leader Peter having a 'moment' to share with us all,   Well done Peter and many thanks.

If YOU enjoyed "Round ONE" of this adventure,  "Round TWO" promises to be equally as enjoyable.  The Gravel Riders will be B A C K>>>>>>>>    If you enjoy ON TAP W A T E R, we have it all here for you.  Our stream section we will set up with arrows to allow you FREE range of a loop circuit we have available.  Enjoy, as we know you will.  You may ride this loop as many times as you are able.  Our ONE support vehicle will be stationed nearby for collection of drowned bikes.  Our experienced Ride Leaders more than competant to assist with DRY-OUT techniques,  (if this weekend was anything to go by!!!)  But,   all bikes that experienced a slight drowning, were able to be resuscitated and the journey continued.

Labour Weekend - October 20th - 22nd,  and we are now Counting Down the days leading up to...

Jim has been away to the Gisborne area and has been running over the Route Preparation and Planning for our DAY 2 of our forthcoming adventure into this area - Gisborne/East Cape/Motu and Much More......

DAY 2 of our Journey we will get to view The Tarndale Slip - You cannot begin to appreciate the vastness of this, until you are right on the doorstep of.....  where Jim was standing to take this pic,   you can see the hillside here is also beginning on that downwards slide away also

DAY 2 and The Advanced Rangers will get to cross this about 20 times -   More fun in the sun and right here on this weekend -   (I hear the weather in this region is looking great for our visit here also)

On the theme of East Cape/Forestry/Farmland/Stream Crossings - We would like to focus in on a note of Safety.   For all who ride to the conditions and respect the remoteness of the area we will be travelling through,  the below vid clip probably will be NON APPLICABLE.  We would like all attending our ride to take a short break and time out to view a snippet of the below posted vid clip.  This has been posted in to us,  by none other than our travelling and very intrepid duo Father and Son Team of Bernard and Vincent.  If you have been following my website,  I have had great delight in posting events occasionally in relation to these two,  where they go and what they get up to.  They have indeed been receiving a good hit rate on my website.  So,  popularity now dictates that I must post this vid clip also.  Vincent tells us it has received nearly 40,000 hits on YouTube alone.  It has now become high time this was posted here also.   ENJOY,  not sure the boys did at the time,  but the ratings have proved mighty popular!!!   ps Bernard's incoming comments to me were so titled -

Travelling along with us will be out trusty laptop, and at the end of each day of our planned adventure, we will upload footage to our viewers to show you our progress - where we have been and what we got up to....   (only snippets of)  maybe next year you may even wish to come join us in this region also.  This trip, we have also made arrangements for our partners to attend, and we will build on this concept for our next visit.  Whilst the lads get That "Leave Pass",  why not turn it into a family vacation - The Gisborne area has a wealth of really beautiful sights to take in.  The family would love it. Our dinner on the Saturday evening, we will be frequenting Eastwood Hills Arboretum.  Take a look at what this has to offer.  I am sure that I can put together an itinerary for family members also.  :)

November 10th - Taking a visit to the wild coastline of Waikaretu Beach        Gravel Road riding/private farm tracks/a beach visit,,,,

We have planned this ride to be suitable for our big bikes in attendance.  If you attended our South Head visit at the beginning of this year, you will enjoy this ride.  This ride has it alll.  We have gorgeous huge hard hill tracks to ride over and these will offer stunning views for high attop.  Looking down, you can see the hard-packed gravel track that will lead us out onto a firm black sand track that leads out onto Waikaretu beach.  Magic.  Wow.  The locals have paradise on their back doorsteps.  When I was down on the beach chatting to the locals as they showed us around,  it was wonderful taking in the wildness that this area is about.  I sat on the edge of the smooth and rounded rocks that had taken a pummelling from the big surf that was in attendance on the day and viewed out over the coastline.  The Pinnacle Rocks magnificent.  It felt like a world on its own.  I was told that when the tide was OUT (as it will be on the day of our visit) one can reach these rocks.

Atiu Regional Park and The Cider Shed

Out and about - Why wouldn't you??   After the big storms we have been blasted with just recently, many had mailed their concerns as to whether Sunday was going to be a green light for us"But" someone upstairs presented it on "That PLATE" to us, and we soaked it up (pics tell the tale here). 

It was a tough job to wake some of the lads as they enjoyed a brief snooze in the SUNSHINE (unheard of)  SEAN caught napping ON THE JOB,  oh well time for more, and down to the beach we go


 The dust was even well on queue today also, something we have been unused to for quite some time.  Our Sunday Gravel Adventure Road Ride saw Neil put HIS TOM TOM to good use - hmmm a few tales to be told here,  estimated arrival time to "The Cider Shed" approx one hour after we actually arrived,  but our group moved along  exceedingly well-ahead of schedule.  Being so "well ahead" of our timing, saw us lunch earlier than expected and we missed another of our Gravel Riders incoming.  Sorry, Dougie,  we will catch up with you again soon we hope.   (Power to The TOM TOM!!!)

 Joining us for our day we had many NEW Ride Group members also, and we hoped they enjoyed their time with us.  Our Gravel Family is expanding each ride, and we now have a wide and diverse cross-selection of ride skills along with makes and models of dual-purpose adventure bikes.  

 Now, as I sit here looking at the pics from over our day, it is obvious that this" SPAT of SUNSHINE"  bought out some mischievous frolics and antics from amongst certain individuals.  It was quite interesting to view these things, and made for quite a humorous day. A story unfolds here,  a CERTAIN lady adventure rider taking QUEUE from the LADS in THE BUSHES,  now it seems we have a BIRDETTE in THE BUSHES.
Taking one of our Re-Group roadside breaks,  our lady rider  attempts to JOIN the lads with a BUSHSTOP?????   (It is the sunshine that is doing this,  I know it)   I am still laughing with this one!!!  hmmm now what's next???

 Many of us decided MORE gravel road riding PLEASE, so Neil buckled under the pressure of our demands and we followed our leader once again out for a visit to The Atiu Regional Park.

WE think so >>>>>>   Paul agrees  as he came "To The Rescue" - our new DR sustained HER first Roadside Rescue.  Owning a NEW bike leaves the lucky recipient with a raft of new issues to deal with,  ONE-of   being,   when one refuels one's bike and tightens that screw cap, one must ensure the line does NOT have a kink in it.  hmmmm a learning curve here as the DR coughed and spluttered to a very abrupt halt.  Being left wondering,  what on earth????     I soon discovered the black line with The Kink....  (The Sunshine,  it really all is)

And YES, just when we had maybe witnessed the effects of  toooo much of The Good that sunshine has ultimately bought to the Gravel Riders,   NO,   there really WAS more,  we concluded our awesome day at Kaukapakapa with a most unique presentation process for our Spectro Z prize pack.  A selection of The Loose Stuff was found from the nearby premises aka roadside, and squirrelled away into the palms of our husband and wife team (seen pictured here)  it was very interesting when the remaining recipients were asked - Which one of these two would YOU collect an object from the palm of???   Hardly containing myself  GORDON seen here  took the bait nicely and procured for himself the CORRECT round object from our PEACE loving pic filler-inner and was duly awarded our Spectro Z oil prize pack and Hi Flow Filter - well done GORDON

*****November 10th -  We have been busy mapping out a full day of Adventure Riding to bring to our Adventure Riders.   This ride will take us out and over at least four private-property access blocks, which will offer stunning coastal views.  We will travel acrosss private property and ride over an airstrip also.  Tracks/trails and 4 x 4 tracks.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Beach access here is all by private land access.  We have timed this ride in with the tides and we should enjoy quite a nice stint out along the beach.  We will have time to view the Pinnacles,  this was a very wild area today when we visited, spray being tossed about as those big waves crashed down.  Awe inspiring watching the wild coastal surf breakers smash down onto the rocks.  Jim even spied a seal sunning itself on the rocks also.  Wow factor here. Fresh mussels to be harvested on those rocks also.

 

 

 If you wish to take this in,  we will assist all to be able to attend this and to view this private area.  It was wonderful watching the wildlife strutting around also.  hmmm fresh Turkey steaks looking very real. 

 

 

We have co-ordinated this ride to include a pre-set menu that will be cooked by the cook in the Nikau Caves kitchen.  HMMMM I wonder what she will be serving us all up????

Neil and The Cider Shed September 2012

This Sunday 07th October 2012 - Neil will lead us out to "The Cider Shed" via the many gravel roads that this area has on offer


It has been quite some time since we paid "Cath" a visit at "The Cider Shed", so our Ride Group member "Neil" has opted to lead us on a
journey that will take us over the many gravel roads that invariably lead towards SH1 and "The Cider Shed."  We will meet at 9:30am BP Kumeu and we will enjoy the many gravel roads that run past RiverHead and much more that this area has on offer.  For our smaller cc bikes in attendance we will refuel at "GAS Service Station" around the Waitoki area.  This is a free ride for our Ride Group Members.  Non Members are welcome but will incur a Ride Fee.

East Cape/Motu Adventure Ride weekend October 20th - 22nd

 

                                                           

WE are very shortly looking to close-off our entries for this Adventure weekend, as we are nearing FULL to capacity.  We could not have envisaged that this adventure could have proven to be so very popular, so we have reserved this Labour Weekend slot again next year for another visit to this area.  We have been looking closely over the last couple of weeks, and it is clear that there is a wealth of untapped terrain to be explored here.  We are currently organising your individual accommodation for those of you who have now paid your deposits which confirms your booking with us.  We have looked to house you all comfortably.  For our next visit here, we will plan to book many more accommodation spaces.  Our NGARNZ policy has always been to attempt to accommodate all of our valued members.  If you book ahead of time with us we will also look to provide you with your choice of accommodation also.

NEW to hand - Saturday December the 13th - 42nd Traverse/Fishers Track/Tongariro and Much More

We have something "special" for our Ride Group members here that will conclude the end of what has been a "FULLY-packed Ride Calendar" for our first year for NGARNZ.  Our Xmas break-up ride - we are planning an Adventure TOUR of Tongariro National Park and what this area has on offer, along with much more.  We look to combine forces with many Adventure Riders living in and around this area for our weekend.  If you wish to RIDE the Traverse, and carry that "Emblem of Honour" around with you - "YES, I have TRAVERSED it", then this will be unmissable.  The 42nd Traverse is what some consider as a "HIGHLIGHT" in any adventure, so we will be conducting this, and we will look to get you "ALL" through if you wish to participate.

        Three days of riding which includes "PRIVATE" forestry/farmland and also stations along with numerous stream crossings.  "Two Routes" have also been planned along with "TWO Ride Leaders".  Additional fuel and supplies will be travelling along with us in our "ONE support vehicle".  We also have available room for three passengers in our  support vehicle.  Your luggage etc will be carried along in our support vehicle.

     The Mid-Rangers(group 2)  and our Advanced riders will cross paths often over our day, meaning some of the more technical stages can be by-passed by our newer riders or those with bigger bikes.

DAY 2:

Sunday begins with a fully-cooked hot breakfast  Sunday Breakfast 6:30 till 7:30am    Choice of

·        Sausages, bacon, eggs, beans, eggs & toast.    ·         · Coffee & tea

 This will be a "BIG day",   8-9 hours riding for "ADV's" and 6 hours for our "Mid Rangers",  A shorter route will be made available if the distance gets too much.

Sunday we make a stop for mng tea at  Waipaoa River approx 11:00am.   HERE we will be serving ·      Orange or apple juice,  ·  Cake selection,  · muesli bars,  · Bananas,  · mandarins

Turangi Explore Adventure Ride - and more....

For those of you that attended our Turangi Explore Adventure Ride on September 15th - Three NEW vid clips have since emerged - Bernard has been busy at work with his GoPro on hand whilst pilot Tim D has been to work busting those berms and filming also.  If you are looking for a REALLY good laugh then go ahead and view Bernard's vid.  If you have recently attended the gym (as some have mentioned to me they have recently, you might like to abstain from the pleasure of viewing until the DOM's have settled down.  .......

If you are looking to attend this ride please complete our registration form as deposits are due for this ride by the end of September which is coming up soon.  Interest is good for this ride as we look to take you all to a very remote region of our North Island.  Accommodation is scarce in this region and we need to have our overnight stops close to where we will be riding.  We are currently looking for a few more bed spaces and something may have just come up to be able to take a few more of our riders.

Topuni Forest and Topuni Mill - September 22nd

We were very fortunate this last weekend of September the 22nd to be able to take a small visit to Topuni Forest situated just past Te Hana on SH1. Topuni Forest has a working mill stationed inside of it, and at this time of the year the mill is quiet, so timing was right for a visit here. Some excellent roads inside of this forest and wow, what a lot of variety also. We will of course be back and hope that the mill will stay quiet for a while longer. A couple of local visitors came to catch us for lunch at Dragon's Rest. Hi to Ross and Sara from Kaiwaka. Our farmers will be joining us again shortly when their very hectic schedule has calmed down. The teenagers on their farm managed to forestall their birthing and allowed the two of them a brief TIME-OUT to chat with us. Ross looks forwards to getting those TWO wheels back out on the gravel again shortly. LOOK-OUT I am sure he will be enjoying this!!!
A NEW lady adventure rider joined us for a stint here to take in the surrounds and the peacefulness that we experienced at one of our brief stops - especially at the wooden bridge stationed right at the very intersection of one of our FAVOURITE roads. I don't think OUR group will forget BRIAN Road in a hurry. Great PUDDLE training and we enjoyed it so much, we decided to tackle it several times around. Our new ADV lady rider is currently in training for her very big trip to India in 2013. We wish you all the best for your forthcoming trip.

If you have been following two of our adventure riders 'Bernard and NOW Vincent',  well our caption of 'LIVING The DREAM' is very real here.  Wow, indeed.  I can't wait for Vincent to be back into New Zealand - I am sure he will be more than happy to relive some of his adventures with his, both motorised and pedal power, but wow, what pedal power this is.....  Tune in for your next episode of......  we will of course be following ........
